||Children - even toddlers! - have the capacity to understand what to expect and what is expected of them, and with that the ability to be respectful, Good Little Travelers.
Most TSA agents, flight attendants and airport personnel recognize that traveling children are often ill prepared for the journey and for the most part are respectful of that fact, and quite helpful. But traveling families have a responsibility to prepare themselves and their children for likely delays, long lines, the need to be flexible.
There is more to flying with toddlers than keeping them entertained and hoping for good behavior on the plane: there are long lines at busy airports, security checkpoint(s), boarding the plane, sitting in confined space that shakes and makes noise, not to mention puts sometimes incredible pressure on little ones' ears, and travel etiquette issues like not kicking the seats in front... all things that don't get addressed in the usual checklists.
The I'm A Good Little Traveler!™ DVD Toolkit™ Series, beginning with Shae by Air, offers toddlers and first-time child flyers a fun means of preparing themselves to be good little travelers. Each DVD Toolkit™ comes with the same tool that Shae uses in the movie. Three-year-old Shae shows children through her own experience how to feel involved with the whole journey, making the flight as much a part of the vacation as the destination.
What is a DVD Toolkit™? It's more than just a movie! It's everything your child needs to prepare to travel. The Shae by Air DVD Toolkit™ contains:
Children learn best when they can use a variety of senses.
- Entertaining Live Action Movie introducing air travel to young children
- Fun Airplane Music Video
- Video Message to Parents for use of the video as a preparatory tool
- Shae by Air Picture Packing List for toddlers
- Two I'm a Good Little Traveler!™ Luggage Tags
The Shae by Air DVD Toolkit™ includes a DVD movie: something visual children could recognize and emulate, shot at their height - to see a good example set, to hear the process explained in words that encourage, not frighten or bore them. The Picture Packing List allows children to do something - to be a part of the trip. Helping pack makes it the children's trip too, not just something they are dragged along on.
Made by a parent in conjunction with child development specialists, and told from a young child's perspective, the I'm a Good Little Traveler!™ Series of DVDs is a series of stories for children ages 2 - 6. By watching this DVD Toolkit™ Series, beginning with Shae by Air, and using the tools included with it, children will:
- Feel empowered with a sense of responsibility for themselves while traveling
- Be comfortable and aware of boundaries and expectations before and during a trip
- Become familiar with travel environments, such as airport security and the airplane cabin
- Learn travel and social etiquette through peer role modeling
- Look forward to their next big travel adventure!
I got this for my son (3 years) before our first flight. He watched it over and over (it isn't very long) and when we got to the airport, he was very proud that he knew what to do at each stop (ticket counter, security line). On the plane, he was very proud to tell the people around us, and the flight crew that HE was a good little traveller and would never kick the seat in front of him!!! I think it made our flight so much easier! Thank you!!

Anyone travelling with a 2+ year old on an airplane for the first time would do well to include this great video in your preparation arsenal.

As a trained Montessori teacher, I am very selective about what my daughter watches, and have been thrilled with our experience of "Shae by Air".
- Fiona (Ontario, Canada)
I think the airlines should send this to every adult who buys a ticket for a child.

I loved this video because my two-year old son immediately identified with Shae, and kept talking about her and the airplanes. It put a familiar face on a potentially scary thing: flying.

This DVD was excellent!
It showed my daughter how fun it was to fly, and how to act as a "grown-up" while on the plane (all the way to Australia). The DVD is like a professional quality documentary, and the music was wonderful. Highly recommend this video!!!

My 3-year-old daughter was scared to fly until she saw Shae By Air. After watching the movie, we were able to book our plane tickets! We love your DVD!

I am planning to fly with my twin 2 year olds by myself.
I wanted to find something to show them about flying, other than books. This is the perfect answer. It is not silly, animated or sickening cutesy. It is very visual, simple and minimal talking. We talk about Shae all the time when we see planes.

"The I'm A Good Little Traveler! DVD Toolkit Series: Shae by Air is a handy thing to have if you're dipping a toe into flying with toddlers aged 2 to 6. They'll learn how to behave on the plane from a child's perspective."
